Badge readers are among the most established and prevalent data collection technologies in use today. They deliver reliability, functionality, ease-of-use, and integrate the latest technologies.

Reliability The high impact ABS construction allows badge readers to withstand abuse and protect against static discharge. They are completely sealed with a membrane keyboard; giving the unit a streamlined appearance while keeping out harmful contaminants like dust, dirt, and water. Badge readers can withstand temperatures ranging from 32°F to 122°F, and humidity of up to 90%. They also protect against blackout or brownouts by delivering up to two weeks of data retention.

Functionality Employees and Supervisors can use badge readers for a variety of self-service tasks. Employees can clock in to record their hours, perform department or job transfers and view messages, schedules, total hours and last punch. Supervisors are able to perform edits, enforce schedules, perform job/department transfers and validate employee totals.

Ease of Use Badge readers are the most user-friendly systems available. They offer audio and visual interaction, and almost no training is required. They can be programmed with prompts to match your application and clearly guide your employees through the data collection process. The screen is a bright 5.7" QVGA backlit LCD, and displays light with clear contrast. The installation is quick, the integration is painless and the advanced “Plug and Play” technology allows users to reconfigure the hardware by simply interchanging modules.

Communication technologies supported include Ethernet TCP/IP, Modem, Direct Serial and Wireless (RF).

Badge Technologies

Flexible badge technologies allow you to match your employee verification/building access with your desired level of security. Employee verification can be done by using something a person has (ex. card), something a person knows (ex. PIN), or the person’s physical characteristics (ex. fingerprint). Legiant will work with your organization to determine the best fit, and can deploy any or all of the following

Secure Bar Code Badges contain a unique bar code for employees that can be described as an “optical Morse code.” These badges have been around since 1970 and are inexpensive to produce and replace.

Magnetic Stripe Badges store employee’s data by modifying the magnetism of tiny iron-based particles on a band of magnetic material. These cards have a widespread public acceptance and are among the least expensive to produce and replace.

Proximity Badges use embedded computer chips to achieve rapid read/response time, and do not need to make physical contact with card reading device. Proximity cards are more difficult to duplicate and provide a higher level of security than magnetic or barcode badges.

Personal Identification Numbers (PIN) allow employees to access the system by using their assigned employee ID and a unique PIN. This option allows for a heightened level of security when combined with other badge methods.

Biometrics measure and analyze human physical and behavioral characteristics for employee authentication purposes. They can be used in conjunction with badges to produce the highest levels of security and accuracy in badge reader data collection.
